Nine charged with drunk driving

A police road block exercise carried out in the Matura and Sangre Grande districts over the weekend resulted in nine motorists being charged for driving under the influence of alcohol.

They are expected to appear before a magistrate today. Police officers also issued 50 fixed penalty traffic tickets to motorists.

The fixed penalty traffic tickets were issued for loud music, defective tyres, cracked windscreens, heavily tinted glass, no ID lights, driving without seat belts and using a cellular phone while driving.

The exercise began on Friday evening and ended yesterday morning.

The exercise was led by ASP Bhojanarine Khandhai and included Ag Insp Ken Lutchman, Ag Sgt Vekash Ramkissoon, Cpls Allan Khan, Nicholas Vialva, Ronald Mohammed, Randy Castillo, PCs Nanan Sankar, Manick Mohammed, WPCs Guerra Keer and Mc Kenzie.
