HAVING chalked up his second drunk driving offence in the space of two months, a 23-year-old Rousillac labourer has promised to seek help after admitting to the court that he has a drinking problem. He was fined $4000 and disqualified from driving for one month when he appeared before a magistrate in the Siparia Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
It was only in June that he was in court and paid a fine of $3000 for a similar offence. A 32 year old man was also fined a total of $7000 for drunk driving and driving with an expired insurance certificate and driving permit.
They were two of four persons charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in an anti-crime exercise conducted in Oropouche, La Brea, Fyzabad, Penal and Point Fortin districts over the weekend. A total of 31 persons were arrested for various offences.
Police conducted six field sobriety tests and issued 12 Fixed Penalty tickets. The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Hosein, Supt James, ASP Harry and included Insp Ramphall, Sgts Gosine, Putkoo, Nemai along with officers Point Fortin and Penal CID and South Western Division Warrant Section.
